Mobily (7020), the Saudi telecom operator, has won a new frequency license for 15 years, valued at approximately SAR 2.5 billion.
With this, Saudi Arabia’s total revenue from the frequency auction rises to around SAR 3 billion.

By utilizing the 120 MHz frequencies, Mobily will be able to cover vast geographical areas with high-quality service.
Additionally, the new frequencies will support the provision of advanced 5G services and enhance the company’s ability to offer high-speed connectivity to individual and business customers.
The frequencies will be available for use starting January 1st, 2025.

The “frequency spectrum” is one of the most important assets for mobile operators.
Allocating more spectrum helps companies improve services and create new uses to support emerging technologies in the consumer and business sectors.
This includes independent technologies of 5G-SA and the Internet of Things (IoT).
This comes amid growing demand for high-speed data services in Saudi Arabia.

Mobily explained that the new frequencies are one of the main enablers for deploying mobile networks and providing innovative services and modern technologies.
The company added that with the current progress in the country’s telecom and mobile network sectors, and the increasing demand for advanced services, it was keen to invest in the new frequencies needed.
This demonstrates its commitment to providing advanced infrastructure that supports the latest technologies and meeting customer expectations.
Additionally, it contributes to achieving local digital transformation goals.
Some context
The “Spectrum Auction” organized by the Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) also saw “Zain KSA” and “Saudi Telecom Company” (STC) winning new frequency licenses.
The CST stated that the auction would contribute more than SAR 25 billion to the GDP by 2030.
This will be achieved through enhancing digital infrastructure, stimulating investment, boosting competitiveness in mobile telecom services, and rolling out innovative, high-quality telecom services.
Zain announced on Tuesday that it had secured a new license for frequency spectrum use, valued at SAR 624 million.
This license for the provision of 5G services is also for 15 years.
STC has not yet disclosed the cost of its frequency licenses.
Mixed Performance from Telecom Giants
- Mobily’s net profit for Q3 2024 surged by 58.2% YoY, reaching SAR 829 million.
- Zain reported a net profit of SAR 150 million, up 43% YoY.
- In contrast, STC’s net profit decreased by about 5.3% during the same period, reaching SAR 4.6 billion.
