The Clap:

Telecom Egypt (ETEL) and Finland’s Nokia have inked a new partnership agreement to bring 5G tech for the “first time” to  cities including Giza, Luxor, Aswan, and Alexandria, according to a statement. Deployment will take place later this year.

The details:

Nokia will install 5G radio access network equipment, providing significant 5G capacity and coverage while also allowing for simple installations, ETEL notes. The Finnish company will handle deployment, integration, and network optimization per the new deal.

Remember:

In January, Telecom Egypt secured the country’s first 5G license – valid for a 15-year period— and has since established 5G sites in hotspot areas across the country in partnership with Huawei.

Why this matters:

Aside from faster streaming and downloads, introduction of 5G technology “will bring numerous benefits, including increased capacity for seamless connectivity in some of Egypt’s most densely populated areas,” ETEL said.
